Trump Mocks Jimmy Carter After Recent Passing Of Former First Lady

(UnitedHeadlines.com) – Mocking former President Jimmy Carter, former President Donald Trump called him “a brilliant, brilliant president” in comparison to President Joe Biden during a Nov. 18 rally in Iowa. Trump said that Carter must be “the happiest person anywhere in this country right now” because “these clowns” make his administration look brilliant.

Carter, a Democrat, was not a supporter of Trump, to put it mildly. In 2019, Jimmy Carter referred to Trump as an “illegitimate president.”

Trump’s comments came just one day before the death of Carter’s wife, former first lady Rosalynn Carter, 96. The Carter Center announced Nov. 17 that she had entered in-home hospice care, joining her husband, 99, who has been receiving hospice care at home since February of 2023. In May, it was announced Rosalynn had been diagnosed with dementia.

In September, their grandson Jason Carter stated, “They are together,” at home and in love, adding, “I don’t think anyone gets more than that.”

On Twitter, their grandson, James Carter IV, wrote about Trump’s comments on Nov. 20 when he stated that it was “high praise” for Trump to mock his grandfather. He said that while he preferred his grandfather’s name not be mentioned by Trump “at all,” he was “not offended.”

Despite his comments at the rally, Trump and his wife both responded to the news of Rosalynn Carter’s death with posts on social media. Trump posted on Truth Social Nov. 19, writing that Carter had “earned the admiration and gratitude” of the country. Trump added that Carter leaves “a legacy of extraordinary accomplishment and national service.”

Former first lady Melania Trump also responded to the news of Carter’s death with a Nov. 19 post on Twitter. She wrote that Rosalynn Carter left “a meaningful legacy.” She said that Carter’s will be remembered not only as first lady but also “as a wife and mother.” She added that Carter will be remembered for her “devotion to her husband, family, and country” and for having a “servant’s heart.”
