Trump Assassin Suspect Had Explosives Near Rally and Bomb Materials at Home

(UnitedHeadlines.com) – Explosives were found in the vehicle belonging to Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, the suspect who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump at his July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Police found explosives, including an IED, inside Crooks car, parked near the site of Trump’s rally.

While searching his home in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, police also found bomb-making materials after the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives sent a bomb squad. According to police, the house was searched “well into the night” to clear and secure the area.

Dan Maloney, a neighbor of Crooks, said, “It’s insanity that anyone would do this.” Maloney noted he had previously planned to attend the rally.

According to the U.S. Secret Service, Crooks fired at Trump not long after he took the stage to speak at the rally from an “elevated position” on the roof of a building about 164 yards away from the stage. Crooks was killed by Secret Service snipers after he fired several rounds toward the stage where Trump was speaking. Police recovered an AR-15-style rifle belonging to his father from the scene. According to officials, his father purchased the gun more than six months before the July 13 assassination attempt, and federal agents were still investigating how the son gained possession of the gun.

Before the rally, Crooks purchased ammunition at a gun shop in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, according to the Department of Homeland Security officials.

Secret Service agents rushed to protect Trump and get him off the stage after the gunshots were fired. He grabbed his right ear and dropped down to the ground near the podium as Secret Service agents rushed to the stage. He raised his arms and told the crowd to “Fight” as Secret Service agents rushed him off the stage.

One person, Corey Comperatore, 50, was killed, and James Copenhaver, 74, and David Dutch, 57, were injured.
