Trump and DeSantis Meet Behind Closed Doors in Florida

(UnitedHeadlines.com) – On April 28, a private meeting between former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was held at the Shell Bay Club in Hollywood, Florida.

The three-hour-long meeting was set up almost 10 days ago by Florida real estate broker Steve Witkoff, who knows both DeSantis and Trump, at the request of DeSantis, who agreed to have breakfast with Trump. Witkoff will host a fundraiser for Trump on May 5 in Miami.

In an April 29 post on Truth Social, Trump wrote that they had “a great meeting yesterday,” adding he was “very happy” to have DeSantis’ “full and enthusiastic support.” Trump stated the two discussed how they “would work closely together to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN” and “the future of Florida.” Trump added that he appreciates the support of DeSantis as he challenges the “Worst President in the History of the United States.”

During the meeting, their first conversation since January when DeSantis dropped out of the Republican presidential primary and endorsed Trump, DeSantis agreed to help Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, fundraise. Re-elected as the governor of Florida in 2022, DeSantis has built a network of donors and supporters that he continues to keep in touch with, which could be helpful to Trump in his bid for the White House.

The meeting comes after the two spent a year slinging insults and attacking each other during the Republican presidential primaries. Despite the insults, after DeSantis dropped out and endorsed him, Trump stated he was retiring the nickname he used against DeSantis, “Ron DeSanctimonious.” Before DeSantis decided to run for the presidential nomination, Trump had endorsed him for governor in 2018.

While it is the first time he has spoken to Trump since his failed bid for the White House, this is not the first time DeSantis said he would help Trump fundraise, as DeSantis told his supporters and donors he would help Trump at an appreciation retreat in early April.
