Snack Products Recalled for Undeclared Nut Ingredients

(UnitedHeadlines.com) – Marshalltown, Iowa’s Lara’s Bakery 3 LLC has issued a recall for some of its snack products because they contain undeclared ingredients.

The snacks, Pan de Racho, Pan Surtido, Tres Leches, Panque, Chocoflan and Flan, contain undeclared sesame seed, soy, coconut, wheat, egg and milk. If people with a severe sensitivity or allergy to these ingredients consume the products, there is a chance of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.

The Lara’s Bakery snack products were distributed in Wisconsin and Iowa by direct delivery to retail stores through Nov. 28 before the error was discovered.

After noticing that the packaging of the products did not disclose the ingredients of sesame seed, soy, coconut, wheat, egg and milk, a recall was issued for the three products. Pan de Racho is individually packaged in a clear plastic bag, with a label noting it contains sesame seeds and pink color stripes. Panque is individually packaged in a clear plastic bag and label. Tres Leches are packed in clear containers and labeled, and Pan Surtido is packaged in metal trays. Until the company is certain the issue is corrected, Lara’s Bakery has suspended making the affected snack products.

The company is asking that recalled products be returned for a refund. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the recalled products.

This is not the only product recalled for undeclared allergens. A voluntary recall has been issued for Prairie Farms Dairy Inc.’s Holiday Nog purchased between Dec. 4 and Dec. 6 at United Dairy Farmers stores, as they may contain an undeclared egg allergen. There have been no reported cases of illnesses related to the recall.

A recall was also issued for Malichita and Rudy cantaloupes sold at various stores across the United States after a salmonella outbreak. The outbreak caused at least 230 people in 38 states to become sick. Three deaths were also linked to the outbreak.
