Pelosi Accepts Blame for January 6 Security Lapses

(UnitedHeadlines.com) – In video footage released on June 10 by House Republicans, former House Speaker and California Rep. Nancy Pelosi blames herself for not having National Guard troops at the U.S. Capitol Building on Jan. 6, 2021.

The House Republican panel shared the video clip in a post on Twitter.

In the video recorded for an HBO documentary by Pelosi’s daughter, Alexandra, Nancy Pelosi told her chief of staff, Terri McCullough, “We have a responsibility.”

Pelosi then asks McCullough why the National Guard was not there, with McCollough noting, “They thought that they had sufficient resources.” Pelosi then says she takes “responsibility for not having them just prepare for more.”

The excerpt comes from a 45-minute video that the Republican-controlled House Administration Oversight Subcommittee obtained from HBO. The release of the video exchange follows a 2022 report by House Republicans that found Democratic leadership, including Pelosi, blocked the National Guard troops from being present at the Capitol Building due to the “optics.” The report contradicts Democrats’ claim that former President Donald Trump was responsible for the security failures on Jan. 6. Trump has previously stated that he requested more National Guard troops to be at the Capitol Building on Jan. 6, but the request was rejected. The report noted that Gen. Mark Milley was concerned that Trump’s request for more troops was potentially misusing the military for political purposes.

A spokesperson for Pelosi said the video clips were taken out of context and accused House Republicans of attempting to “whitewash” Jan. 6. The spokesperson said the video shows “Pelosi sprang into action in response to the attack on the Capitol.”

However, in a post on Twitter, House Administration Oversight Subcommittee chair, Georgia Rep. Barry Loudermilk, said the video shows taxpayer’s money was used to chase “false political narratives” by the Jan. 6 Select Committee. He added that Pelosi’s “admission of responsibility directly contradicts their own narrative” that Trump was to blame for Jan. 6.
