(UnitedHeadlines.com) – If re-elected as president, former President Donald Trump is promising there will be a mass deportation of illegal immigrants, a move polling shows 51 percent of Americans support.
As part of his campaign, Trump has stated he will initiate the “largest domestic deportation operation in American history” if he is re-elected in November.
As the issue of the border and illegal immigration remains one of the top concerns of voters, including in Democratic-controlled states such as Massachusetts, a poll performed on behalf of Axios Vibes by The Harris Poll, found 42 percent of Democrats, 68 percent of Republicans, and 46 percent of Independent voters support Trump’s plan for the mass deportation of illegal immigrants. The poll that surveyed 6,251 people between March and April found that age played a factor in support of the plan, with 60 percent of the Baby Boomer generation, 53 percent of Gen X, 48 percent of Millennials, and 35 percent of Gen Z supporting the deportation plan.
When asked why they are concerned about the issue of illegal immigration, 21 percent said it was due to an increase in crime, violence, and drugs, 18 percent said it was because of the cost to taxpayers, and 17 percent said it was because of the risk to national security.
The Harris Poll chairman and former pollster for former President Bill Clinton, Mark Penn, said he was “surprised” by the support for mass deportations of illegal immigrants.
The poll is one of many recent polls that show President Joe Biden’s handling of the crisis at the southern border is unpopular with voters. A poll conducted on behalf of Newsweek shows that 20 percent of voters say the U.S. has control of its borders, while another poll shows 36 percent of voters approve of the president’s handling of immigration.
Since Biden took office in January 2021, there have been a record 9.5 million nationwide encounters of migrants at the border.
