(UnitedHeadlines.com) – First Lady Jill Biden’s former press secretary, Michael LaRosa, slammed what he called the “scripted” protection of President Joe Biden’s mistakes.
During Biden’s 2020 campaign, LaRosa served as the First Lady’s press secretary and, until August 2022, he served as her chief spokesperson and a special assistant in the White House, where he worked on interview preparations for First Lady and Biden. However, since leaving, he has been critical of the Biden administration.
His comment comes after a report from chief White House correspondent Peter Baker about Biden opting out of a Super Bowl interview. While many believe Biden skipped the interview to limit his public exposure, his advisors claimed it was to give Americans a break from politics. According to the report, many on Biden’s team believe limiting his exposure is to help him avoid making “age-related mistakes.” However, it appears to be causing “simmering discontent” that limits his public exposure and “goes too far.” The report notes Biden’s mistakes, acknowledging that he has had “fewer news conferences and granted fewer interviews” than previous presidents.
However, LaRosa weighed in on the issue, telling Baker that Biden seems too “choreographed, scripted and controlled,” adding that it appears as though his flaws are being hidden. He stated that this does not let him “show off his strengths—humor, empathy and compassion,” making him less relatable to the American people.
The report follows a variety of mistakes made by Biden as well as special counsel Robert Hur’s report where he referred to Biden as a “well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory,” adding that he could not charge Biden with mishandling classified documents because of Biden’s memory issues.
While some notice a change in Biden, Democratic South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn says he does not believe the changes are related to age.
Both presidential candidates, Biden, 81, and former President Donald Trump, 78, have been criticized for their mistakes. However, polls show that despite Trump’s errors, Biden’s age remains a top concern for voters.
