Former Biden and Bernie Supporter Leaves Democrats and Joins Republican Party

( – In a Dec. 11 opinion piece in The Daily Caller News Foundation, Democrat Will Pierce announced he was joining the Republican Party. Pierce, a former fundraiser for President Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign as well as the 2016 and 2020 campaigns of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, stated that the party has “changed from its ideals.”

Pierce wrote that his concerns about the direction the Democratic Party is heading “can no longer be ignored.” He stated that the party is now “focused on dividing us by radicalizing every issue” and undermines “our rights enshrined in the Constitution” instead of uniting Americans.

The Democratic Party’s “utter disconnect with the American people” is the main reason Pierce said he is leaving the party. He stated elites in affluent areas of the country have taken over the party, adding that the party no longer cares “about the struggles of the average American.”

Pierce gave a list of issues where his views differ from those of the Democratic Party. Then he argued that the focus of education needs to return to the basics, including the teaching of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

He wrote about how race and gender identity being weaponized “for partisan political purposes” shows how the Democratic Party has moved away from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of not judging people by the color of their skin. Pierce also argued that the party now cares more about “what’s happening in Kyiv than what’s going on at the southern border.” He added that that party now cares more about “what you are” rather than “who you are as a person.”

He concluded by saying that he is not abandoning his values by joining the Republican Party. Instead, he seeks to be part of a political party that “aligns with his vision for a free, united, and prosperous America.”

Pierce is not the first Democrat to leave the party this year. Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, North Carolina State Rep. Tricia Cotham, Georgia State Rep. Mesha Mainor, West Virginia State Rep. Elliott Pritt and Louisiana State Rep. Francis Thompson have all switched to the Republican Party.
