(UnitedHeadlines.com) -On July 22, the Department of Justice admitted that it has the transcripts of President Joe Biden‘s interview with biographer Mark Zwonitzer related to Biden’s handling of classified documents.
In June, Department of Justice attorney Cameron Silverberg told the U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich that the Department of Justice did not have a transcript of the interview, created by special counsel Robert Hur during his investigation, “that we can attest to its accuracy.” The response came in after the Heritage Foundation had filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for the transcripts between Biden and Zwonitzer. According to the Department of Justice attorneys, processing the audio files related to Biden’s conversations with Zwonitzer into transcripts would be time-consuming, noting that they were handling other FOIA requests regarding Hur’s investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents.
However, in a new July 22 court filing, Silverberg told Friedrich that there were transcripts from some of Biden’s conversations with the biographer, who worked with the president compiling memoirs in 2007 and 2017. According to the court filing, “six electronic files, consisting of a total of 117 pages” that include “verbatim transcripts” from parts of the interview between Biden and Zwonitzer that were “created for the SCO by a court-reporting service” were located in Hur’s office.
The court filing noted that the Department of Justice reached out directly to Hur to find out what documents he relied upon for his final report while addressing the various FOIA requests. He noted that for the report, he relied on transcripts from the Biden interview with Zwonitzer and a note handwritten by Biden related to Afghanistan.
According to Hur’s 379-page report released in February, Biden did not properly handle the classified documents found in 2022 in his Delaware home and personal offices in Washington, D.C. However, Hur found that due to Biden’s memory issues, he could not bring charges against Biden, stating that a jury would not convict him, referring to Biden as a “well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory.”
