Dems Flip the Script On Trump

(UnitedHeadlines.com) -Democrats are flipping the script against Republican presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump, 78, calling him the oldest presidential candidate in American history.

The move comes after President Joe Biden, 81, announced in a Twitter post on July 21 that he would not seek reelection. Biden, the oldest president in the history of the United States, had originally announced his campaign for reelection in April 2023.

Since then, his age and cognitive abilities have been in the spotlight, with many voters stating his age was a factor in the race, including the release of interview transcripts from Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report about Biden, where Hur referred to Biden as an “elderly man with a poor memory.” Lawmakers and donors began calling for him to drop out of the race after his June 27 debate performance against Trump, where Biden repeatedly froze and misspoke.

In a second post on July 21, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, 59, for the Democratic nomination for president. By July 22, Harris had enough delegates to be named the presumptive Democratic nominee for president.

With Biden no longer in the race, Trump is now the oldest candidate to seek the high office.

A Harris spokesperson had already begun to use Trump’s age against him, stating that Republicans nominated “a 78-year-old convicted criminal.”

In a post on social media, Ohio Rep. Casey Weinstein said Trump “is too old to be president.” Occupy Democrats also posted about Trump’s age, calling on him to “end his campaign immediately” because of his “profound cognitive decline.”

However, Trump’s campaign seemed ready to respond, with officials stating, “It’s not about age, it’s about competence” before pointing to what Harris has done as vice president. The national press secretary for Trump’s campaign, Karoline Leavitt, pointed to her position as “Border Czar,” noting that the crisis at the border is the “worst” in the history of the United States.
