(UnitedHeadlines.com) -In a post on July 23, the Black Lives Matter (BLM) organization lashed out at the Democratic Party, calling them a party of “hypocrites” for “installing” a candidate and not creating a way for the public to participate in the presidential nominating process.
The statement comes after President Joe Biden posted a statement on Twitter on July 21 that he would not seek reelection. In a second post, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee. As of July 22, enough delegates had pledged their support to Harris for her to be the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. If she gets enough delegate votes at the Democratic National Convention in August, she will officially be the nominee.
According to the post on Twitter, BLM wrote, “We do not live in a dictatorship,” adding that “installing” Harris as the party’s nominee and adding an unknown vice president to the ticket “without any public voting process” makes the “Democratic Party a party of hypocrites.” They said anointing Harris as Biden’s successor without a primary vote is a “blatant disregard for democratic principles.”
The post accused “Democratic Party elites and billionaire donors” of manipulating black voters by selecting Harris and an unknown vice presidential candidate to run on “the new Democratic ticket without a primary vote by the public.” According to the group, it is unknown where Harris and her unknown running mate stand on the issues facing black voters.
BLM, which rose to prominence for organizing the 2020 protests over the death of George Floyd, called for the Democratic National Convention to “host an informal, virtual snap primary” before the August convention.
According to BLM leader Shalomyah Bowers, the post is an attack on the Democratic Party’s nominating process and not an attack on Harris. Bowers stated that “anything less” than “actually asking communities across the country” if they support Harris and an unknown candidate on the ticket “is unserious in the quest for democracy.”
