Biden Stepping Aside and Ending Presidential Campaign

(UnitedHeadlines.com) – It appears the effort to persuade President Joe Biden to end his presidential run has worked. In a letter released July 21, Biden announced his presidential campaign is over, and he gave his endorsement to Vice President Kamala Harris.

President Joe Biden had reportedly been more open to stepping down and ending his presidential campaign as calls for him to step down continued to increase.

The push for Biden to step down has increased over the past month, ever since his June 27 debate performance against Republican presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump, where Biden repeatedly misspoke and froze.

While Biden had not indicated he was ready to drop out until Sunday, he appeared, at least in private conversations, “willing to listen,” according to new reports on July 18. A senior Democratic adviser stated that Biden was now asking, “Do you think Kamala can win?” in November instead of saying she cannot win the election.

The report comes as Senate Majority Leader and New York Sen. Chuck Schumer and New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries privately told Biden that concern is growing among Democrats in the House and Senate about his chances of winning November. Schumer “conveyed the views of his caucus” to the president, while Jeffries said he expressed to Biden “the full breadth of insight, heartfelt perspectives and conclusions about the path forward.”

At least 20 House members and two senators had publicly called for Biden to drop out of the race. On July 17, California Rep. Adam B. Schiff publicly called for Biden to end his campaign, while Montana Sen. Jon Tester became the second Democratic senator publicly calling for Biden to drop out.

The continued calls from top Democrats for Biden to step down came as the co-chairman of the Biden campaign, Jeffrey Katzenberg, reportedly told Biden that donors had stopped donating to his campaign.

Vice President Kamala Harris will now become the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. The $91 million the Biden campaign has raised can easily be transferred to Harris.
