(UnitedHeadlines.com) – The June 27 debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump began with Biden showing up late.
Biden arrived at the debate less than a half hour before it began after leaving his Atlanta hotel 27 minutes late. Since he was late, he did not have a chance to learn where to look when Trump was talking and often looked in the wrong direction. During the debate, Biden appeared confused as he repeatedly misspoke, froze, and made false claims.
However, Biden and his team continued to make errors following the debate. Many Democrats defended the president, while his campaign team has continued to change the story and narrative surrounding his performance, including blaming a cold and his travel schedule for his bad debate performance.
Biden’s campaign staff attempted to help him recover from his performance by planning a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina, where the president could be seen as articulate and energetic. However, during the rally, Biden read from a teleprompter instead of speaking without one.
Following the rally, Biden appeared at a fundraiser on June 29, where, despite only speaking for six minutes, he made errors while speaking and left without taking questions. He then spoke at New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy’s private villa, where the 50 guests in attendance struggled to hear him, and he repeatedly lost his train of thought.
During the five days following the debate, Biden spoke in public for a total of 32 minutes, all of which were scripted remarks.
Despite the attempts by Biden’s team, calls for him to withdraw from the race continue from Democrats, the media, and political commentators. Biden and his family met at Camp David to discuss his political future, where they decided he would remain in the race. On July 8, Biden wrote a letter to the Democratic Party leaders where he called for Democrats to unite behind him and for the debate over his candidacy “to end.”
