(UnitedHeadlines.com) – Actress Shannen Doherty, 53, died on July 13, losing her long battle with breast cancer.
Doherty’s publicist, Leslie Sloane, confirmed the news “with a heavy heart,” stating that Doherty had died “after many years of fighting the disease.” She was surrounded by her family and her dog, Bowie, according to the statement.
Born on April 12, 1971, in Memphis, Tennessee, Doherty began acting in the early 1980s on TV shows including “Voyagers!” and “Father Murphy.” However, her career began to take off after she landed a role on “Little House on the Prairie” as Jenny Wilder. She then went on to star in the 1988 film “Heathers.”
Her breakout role came in 1990 on “Beverly Hills, 90210” when she played Brenda Walsh for four seasons. After leaving the show, she starred in “Mallrats” in 1995. She then went on to play the role of Prue Halliwell, the oldest Halliwell witch sister, from 1998 to 2001 on “Charmed.”
In 2008, Doherty appeared in the “90210” reboot and in the parody “BH90210” in 2019. In 2010, she competed with pro partner Mark Ballas on Season 10 of “Dancing With the Stars.” The pair was eliminated first.
She appeared in TV movies, including the 2014 movie “All I Want for Christmas,” the 2018 movie “No One Would Tell,” and the 2021 movie “List of a Lifetime.”
Doherty was married to the son of actor George Hamilton, Ashley Hamilton, from October 1993 to April 1994, then for nine months in 2002, she was married to Rick Salomon. From October 2011 to April 2023, she was married to Kurt Iswarienko. The couple’s wedding was documented on the 2012 WE TV reality show “Shannen Says.”
In 2015, Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer. After chemotherapy, radiation, and mastectomy, two years later, in 2017, she announced she was in remission. However, in February 2020, she announced she was continuing to battle Stage 4 breast cancer.
During an interview in October 2021, she said she was “fighting to stay alive.” However, her cancer spread to her brain, and in November 2023, she confirmed it had also spread to her bones.
