(UnitedHeadlines.com) – Arizona U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake, 54, urged her supporters during an April 14 rally to “strap on a Glock” because the next six months leading up to the election will be “intense.”
Lake, a Republican and vocal supporter of former president Donald Trump, told her supporters at a rally in Mohave County, Arizona, that in preparation for an “intense” six months, they can put on a “seatbelt,” “helmet,” “the armor of God,” or they can “strap on a Glock.” She then touched her hip, saying you can put a Glock here, or “one in the back, or one in the front.” She added that “we’re not going to be the victims of crime” or let “these tyrants” take away Americans’ Second Amendment or First Amendment rights.
She noted that Trump and herself are two people the “swamp” does not want in Washington, D.C., which is why the “next six months” before the election will “be difficult.” Lake noted that because “the swamp” does not want him there, Trump faces an alleged strategic use of legal proceedings that intend to hinder and intimidate a candidate known as “lawfare.” However, she said that Trump is “willing to sacrifice everything” and “continue to fight for us.” Lake added, “This is the moment we have to save our country.”
A spokesperson for Lake said her comment was “clearly” meant as a reference to “Arizonans’ right to defend themselves.”
Lake is running for retiring Independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema’s seat against Democratic Arizona Rep. Ruben Gallego. A swing state, Arizona is expected to play a pivotal role in 2024 in the presidential election and in determining control of the Senate, which is controlled by Democrats who have a 51-49 majority. Recent polls show Gallego with a slim, single-digit lead. In 2022, Lake, a former local news anchor, unsuccessfully ran for Arizona governor against Democrat Gov. Katie Hobbs.
