(UnitedHeadlines.com) – Many are taking to social media to criticize White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre after she said the three U.S. servicemembers killed in a Jan. 27 drone strike in Jordan died “fighting on behalf of the administration.”
Jean-Pierre stumbled through her sentences while commenting on the attack on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” She said the “three brave, uh, three brave, uh,” going on to call the soldiers “military folks.” She then said they fight “on behalf of, uh, this administration,” then attempting to clarify that she meant “the American people.”
The Jan. 27 drone attack on Tower 22, a U.S. outpost in Jordan, killed three service members from Georgia and injured 40. The three soldiers were identified as Sgt. William Rivers, 46, Specialist Kennedy Sanders, 24, and Specialist Breonna Moffett, 23. The Pentagon called the drone strike a one-way “suicide drone attack” carried out by “radical Iran-backed militant groups.”
On Twitter, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ press secretary Jeremy Redfern called her comment “disgusting.” He said that the idea that any member of the military “is fighting on behalf of any administration” is everything that is “wrong with the DC ruling class.”
Former Georgia Rep. Doug Collins posted, “These are not ‘folks,’” adding that the service members gave their lives “for the Country they serve” and not for the administration. He said that the service members “are our best.”
Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert condemned Jean-Pierre’s remarks, saying our members of the military fight for America and “to protect our freedoms.”
Foreign policy analyst Nile Gardiner referred to the Biden administration as “amateurish, disorganized and disrespectful.”
Texas Rep. Pat Fallon called Jean-Pierre’s statement “incredibly disrespectful,” adding service members do not fight “‘on behalf of’ the Biden team.”
John Cardillo said Jean-Pierre is the “most incompetent” White House press secretary in history.
Abigail Jackson, communications director for Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley, stated, “The soldiers were there for America.”
