(UnitedHeadlines.com) – On Jan. 20, former President Donald Trump answered questions surrounding his choice for a potential running mate, saying it would not be a surprise.
While in New Hampshire, Fox News chief political anchor Bret Baier asked Trump when he would decide who his pick for vice president would be if he secures the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. Trump said he would not rush to pick his running mate since it doesn’t have “much of an effect on an election.” He added that he could make a decision “over the next couple of months” before adding that “people won’t be that surprised” about his potential running mate. He also stated that the person, who he says has a “25 percent chance” of being selected as his running mate, “is a very good person.”
Trump was then asked if South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott is on the list, with Trump calling Scott a “great guy.” Scott, who dropped out of the Republican primary race in November, endorsed Trump Jan. 19. Trump went on to mention other prominent politicians from South Carolina, including Nikki Haley, Lindsey Graham and Gov. Henry McMaster, pointing out that many endorsed him over Haley.
Trump previously stated he would consider candidates who ran against him for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination as potential picks for vice president. However, Trump has not given many hints about who his pick could be. Some have urged him to pick a woman, suggesting South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem and New York Rep. Elise Stefanik. Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance is also thought to be on Trump’s list.
Trump’s comments Baier followed a Jan. 16 rally in New Hampshire where Trump hinted that former 2024 Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy could potentially have a role on his team. Ramaswamy dropped out of the race following his fourth-place finish in Iowa. It was unclear what Ramaswamy’s role would be on Trump’s team.
