(UnitedHeadlines.com) – Republican presidential candidate and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley blasted MSNBC’s Joy Reid for her racially divisive comment that Haley is unable to win the Republican primary because of the color of her skin.
Reid stated that the Republican Party is “anti-immigrant” and therefore she “can’t picture” Haley as the 2024 Republican presidential nominee. She said Haley is still a brown lady,” adding that securing the Republican nomination is “still a challenge.”
Haley responded to Reid’s comments Jan. 16 during “Fox & Friends” by stating she is confident she can secure the nomination even though she got third place in the Iowa caucuses. She told Brian Kilmeade that Reid “lives in a different America.” Haley stated that she was the first female minority governor in history, a U.N. ambassador and is running for president, which she said is the American dream. She also continued expressing her confidence that she will be the Republican presidential nominee, saying, “We will get it done.”
Haley also told Kilmeade that the Republican Party is not racist. She said that while she did face “racism when I was growing up” it is better today. She added that the country has had enough of dividing people based on “race or gender or party” and that “our goal is to lift up everybody.”
Haley’s comments come after she came in third place with 19 percent of the vote in Iowa, behind former President Donald Trump, who won the state after receiving 51 percent of the vote. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis finished second with 21 percent, while Ramaswamy suspended his campaign after coming in fourth with 7.7 percent of the vote. Ramaswamy has thrown his support behind Trump and encouraged Haley and DeSantis to drop out of the race and support Trump.
Haley, however, stated she remains focused on the New Hampshire primary stating “it’s a marathon. It’s not a sprint.”
