(UnitedHeadlines.com) – Actor James McCaffrey, 65, died Dec. 17 at his home in New York following a battle with cancer.
His wife, Rochelle Boström shared that she was with him, “holding his hand when he took his last breath.”
McCaffrey had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a bone cancer that develops in blood cells, according to the MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Born in Albany, New York, McCaffrey’s acting career began with TV roles on “New York Undercover” and “Swift Justice.” Following his performance on “Swift Justice,” his agent billed him as “one of Dick Wolf’s proteges.”
He went on to star in TV shows including “Rescue Me,” “As the World Turns,” “Beautiful People,” “Blue Bloods,” “Jessica Jones,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “Revenge,” “She’s Gotta Have It,” “Suits,” “White Collar” and “Viper.” He also starred in the movies “American Splendor,” “She Hate Me” and “The Truth About Cats & Dogs.” He was the voice in the video games “Max Payne,” “Area 51” “Alone in the Dark” “Alan Wake” and “Alan Wake II.”
In 2012, he told VideoGamer that the work to voice “Max Payne” was more physically demanding than he thought it would be.
According to a statement from his manager David Elliott, he was trained at the Actor’s Studio and had a successful 35-year career. Elliot stated that McCaffrey “never lost his love for creating characters.”
His friend, actor Kevin Dillon, reacted to the news of McCaffrey’s death by sharing a photo of the two on social media. He wrote, “We were lucky to have known you,” adding, “My best friend, you will be missed.”
On Twitter, the account for “Alan Wake 2” wrote that they were saddened after learning the news of McCaffrey’s death. “His remarkable talent,” the post stated, “left an enduring impact on our community” and “gave life to our characters.”
He is survived by his wife and his daughter, Tiernan McCaffrey.
