Intelligence Report Says Russia Spent $300 Million To Influence World Political Events

Russia Secretly Put Money Behind These Events…

(UnitedHeadlines.com) – A long-standing investigation into the extent of Russia’s interference in foreign politics has resulted in findings even more widespread than anyone could have imagined. The Washington Post reported the Russian government sent out at least $300 million to influence elections in at least two dozen countries starting in 2014. The plan allegedly included several of the country’s oligarchs, all of whom conspired to sway international leadership in their country’s favor.

The review detailed an extensive list of Russian disinformation operations revolving around Ukrainian interests and political campaigns in numerous other countries. In all, over 100 US embassies reported some type of unwanted influence. Through these channels, the Kremlin’s leaders moved cryptocurrencies, large sums of cash, and other contributions in attempts to alter political climates.

Most recently, Moscow allegedly worked to sway elections in Bosnia, Albania, and Montenegro. The former Soviet country also secretly supported political organizations in North Africa, Central America, Asia, and the Middle East.

President Biden recently extended a national emergency declaration, noting the threat of foreign interference is greater than ever. In light of recent findings, US officials hope to coordinate with other nations to move ahead of the Kremlin’s continued meddling.

While the report didn’t offer any details on Russia’s involvement in the United States, a previous investigation by the National Intelligence Council did find related evidence. Officials found Putin worked “to undermine public faith in the US democratic process” while rendering then-Secretary Hillary Clinton unelectable during the 2016 presidential elections. The Kremlin reportedly “developed a clear preference for President-elect Trump” and employed numerous tactics, including hiring “trolls” to flood social media with disparaging spin.

The report doesn’t allege any knowledge or involvement on the 45th president’s part.
